The biggest difference between Catalan and Castilian is that the vernacular of the former retained more Latin words than Castilian - which assimilated more words from Arabic and other foreign languages. The lexical proximity of Catalan to Italian and French is therefore closer. The dialect itself, while different, is not significantly different from other Ibero-Romance tongues.

"Inca" corresponds to the Italian "anche" in the read text. In other situations it does not correspond: For example you can say in Romanian "Inca o data" which means one more time but not in Italian i think. On the other hand you can say in italian "Anch'io" in the sense of me too but not in Romanian as "Inca eu" would sound weird.

Many Vietnamese people here in Bangkok have many Thais fooled including myself, indistinguishable from a native... until they start asking what words mean. So, sounding like a native and talking like a native are 2 different things. Some people are better than others at sounding and it gets easier if the languages have similarities.

There’s a massive class distinction here. The clips are largely focussed on very broad working class Scots (with a sprinkling of gang culture too) and also very Glasgow centric. There is a much greater breadth of accents across the class spectrum and geographical locations (much like everywhere in the U.K.), with huge differences in how comprehensible they are to non-Scots. I have no issue being understood by non-native English speakers with my (admittedly middle class) Aberdonian accent across Europe and the Middle East in my job.

You did great, I imagine it was pretty much your first time encountering our language. I think you missed some meaning when listening to the spoken language due to our use of diacritics which probably produce different sounds than what the other romance languages have. To be fair to you, I think you got Romanian as "easy" as I found Spanish, that is to say, some things are easy to pick up and others are torture=)))

"Taiwanese" is a different Chinese language than "Taiwanese Mandarin" Taiwanese is closely related to Fujianese, and not really mutually intelligble. The Mandarin of Taiwan is just a Mandarin variant, like the difference between US and UK English. In fact, when I was learning Mandarin in Taiwan, they explicitly taught us with the higher prestige Beijing accent. 80% of of the people Taiwan speak Taiwanese at home, but 100% of Taiwanese also speak Mandarin, as that's what's taught in schools. As with other Chinese dialects, Taiwanese and Mandarin are generally written the same.

Chinese is much, much, easier than Japanese. Chinese has virtually no grammar, and no word genders, so your odds of saying a sentence 100% correctly is much higher than in Japanese. Or even Italian. Tones aren't as scary as folks make out (at least in Mandarin). Writing Chinese is comparable to Japanese. Chinese has more characters, but Japanese adds the 'fun' of three different writing systems. My French is much better than my Mandarin, but my odds of saying a sentence 100% correctly is much higher in Chinese.

First thing, she says "C'est parti" (something like "let's go!") not "Sorti". And later she does say "Paris" with a little air at the end of the word, which can sometimes sound like "sh" or "ss", it's a common phenomenon, especially in Paris, for words ending in a vowel. You can often hear them say "ouich" instead of "oui" because there is too much tension in their mouth.

I was trying to learn Latin from Duolingo but, I paused cause. I kind of wish it offered a bit more context around some of what it’s teaching you. Like when there are two phrases which mean similar things or easy to mix up. But only one of them can be the correct answer. So more situational context would be nice or explanations.
